Have you ever tried walking into your favorite clothing store looking for a good pair of denim jeans but couldn’t find one because you’re a plus size? It’s frustrating but fret not. Famous brands like SM Fashion, Crissa, and Jag are now making their way in the fashion industry with their plus size jeans.

I got the privilege to be invited to watch some of Cebu's most influential women join the ‪#‎DaretoDenim‬ Fashion Army in SM  City Cebu last August 8, 2015.  The Dare to Denim caravan showcases the gorgeous women of Cebu to highlight that denim fits all women, of all sizes, all ages, and all styles. It certainly is a morale-boosting runway show.

The problem with plus size jeans is not all about the waistline. There are certain things you need to consider such us the type of fabric and style of cut. Getting familiar with these things will help you get out of the shopping dilemma.

Here are few suggestions for you to keep in mind when shopping for a new pair of denim jeans:

Know your own style
Yes, you can still have your own style even if you’re a plus size. Whether it’s a straight leg or a boot cut, you can always fit in to either one of them. You can even put on a pair of skinny jeans. There are plenty of designs out there to choose from.

Choose the right fabric
Spandex and Lycra may sound inviting but it’s not really helpful in the long run. Although they give the denim its stretch, they also make it more prone to breakage. The denim will eventually lose its shape. It is better to get the regular denim with fabric which is made of 100% cotton. It is easier to fit in.

Shop around
If you can’t find it one store, then go to the other. There is a reason why competition is good for every business. Consumer get to receive plenty of options. And with the current fashion trend getting in favor with plus sizes, if you wouldn’t be very difficult to find a shop that gives you the right fit.
Okay, there you have it. I hope you would remember these three things the next time you go out shopping for a new pair of denim jeans. There is no ultimate style in fashion. You only need to wear whatever makes you comfortable.

  5. I'm not a denim person but I just noticed how a lot of denims sold in stores aren't exactly "pang-Pinay". Most of the denims sold are for tall, uber skinny models. While it helps to know your style and what kind of pants complement your body type, it's great that more brands now offer denims for plus-size women.

  6. True. My mom before, when she was still fat, is having a problem when visiting store. She often tells me that, "this is all your size!" hehe. But now, with a diet she's having because of hypertension, she's almost as slim as me.

  17. I admire SM for doing this. Other brands - foreign & local - keeps in advertising their denim products to petite or sexy customers that is why other bigger size female customers are frustrated not being able to go with the denim trend. Good they organized this event to encourage plus size female to dress up just like the other girls and love their body.
