Travelling with kids in tow can be both a pain and exciting experience. The first time I traveled with my 2 kids was somehow a disaster when it comes to the "travelling in style and comfort" category. They enjoyed the trip, no doubt about that, but for me, goodness it was never a vacation but more of an out-of-town regular day.

Bringing 1 bag seems out of the question when you have a kid who insists on bringing his entire car collection or a kid who can never sleep without her huge bolster pillow. However, when you get to do it numerous times, you acquire some techniques on how to make the bonding experience more memorable and less stressful.

Here are some helpful tips on how you can enjoy traveling with your kiddos without bringing the entire house with you.

1. Pack and carry your own bag

Take note that when you travel by plane, each of your kid gets to carry as much hand-carry luggage as you do so why not maximize the space and have them carry some of the stuff?

2. Plan ahead and list down what you need

If you're big on organizing and making sure nothing is missed, it wouldn't hurt to make a list.  You can use the good ol' fashion way of creating a checklist using your handy dandy notebook or be a cool mom and use the latest app.

3. Pack early

This will give you ample time to plan what to bring and revise them multiple times as needed. What I usually do is to pile all the stuff we need for the trip.  As the actual trip nears, I will then take out at least 1 item in each pile.

4. Leave the stroller

Yes it will save you money when it comes to renting a stroller but the convenience of not having to bring a bulky stroller along with you is priceless.

5. Pack the light ones

It's an SOP to our family to always wear the heaviest clothing and shoes. It'll save you space and allows you to add more essentials to your luggage .

Extra Tip: Travel in small sizes - invest in travel size toiletries, small diaper bag, small toys, etc.

  5. It would be tough to travel light with kids around. You just have to invest on less bulky and lightweight items.

  6. When my three kids were still very young, travelling is a big production design. When we went to Puerto Galera, we brought the whole house practically in my car which we brought to Mindoro by RORO. It is very hard to travel light and keep regretting about what you forgot or left behind.

  7. I have a friend who traveled with her 2 kids for the first time this year without help. The older kid can already look after the younger one so she did not have much of a problem. She feared that one of her kids would get sick while on the plane. Luckily, it was a smooth trip. I guess planning helps.

  8. Brilliant tips. But if it's my mom with me, travelling lite is not possible. haha If she brings my daughter here in the city, she'd have the entire room with her. All the milk, diaper, clothes, wipes, etc. hahahaha ah! Babies! Blessings and bliss! But yeah, a lot of things to carry. hahaha Thanks for these tips though.

  10. It really is very hard to bring the kids with you during trips. I'm just waiting for my son to grow a bit more before we could go for staycations and the like. :)

  13. Haha, I'm not a mum, so I won't know. But given that I'm not a mum now and it's not possible for me, I definitely think it's not possible for me to travel light in future! Unless my kids can take care of themselves by then!

  16. It's definitely possible - in the end it's all abut personal choices. But yes, we, as parents, must be careful so that our kids don't bother others :) PS: useful tips for those who don't have experience in traveling with kids.
